Should I Redesign My Website?
So, you are thinking about a redesign of your website. What is really important in a small business website redesign that’s more than just an expensive makeover?
Should I redesign my website?
Probably. Any website can be improved – this website could do with a redesign too. But I am helping other small businesses and writing this article. Anyway, on to the important bit..
The function of your business website is to bring you more customers and revenue. A website redesign can bring improvements to your site that make this happen. A clearer path for visitors, better search engine rankings and more inviting sales copy, for example.
A redesign can also be a waste of money if done for the wrong reasons.
The reasons that I want to redesign my website
Your website has been going for a little while. It’s brought some customers and you were pleased with it. But then, the graphics start to look a bit dated and not so shiny. Your competitors have a modern, flashy website with sliding stuff. They’ve spent some money. They must be getting more visitors and selling more stuff with their cool website.
“I want to redesign my website! I want those sliding bits, shiny logos and Web 2.0 graphics to reflect our fantastic business.”
The real reason why you need to redesign your website.
The ONLY reason to redesign your website is to get more business. “Online Visibility” and “Visitor Conversion” are just fancy ways of saying it. Often, redesign clients start by talking about “the look” - logos and pictures, text and font size.
After all, a website is just an online brochure, right?
A business website is actually an entire sales process that starts by a visitor finding you (often via a search) and ends in them taking an action such as asking for a quote or buying a product. The success of the process depends on more than flashy graphics or fashionable fonts.
- Your website could be ranked better in search engines and get more visitors.
- Your website could have a clearer sales path for your visitor.
- Your website could convert more visitors into revenue.
So, yes, your website does need a redesign. They all do.
